She Dwelt among the Untrodden Ways

about

[Originally taken from "Songs from the Solway EP" 2011]

The "Songs from the Solway" EP was a record which was recorded mere weeks after "Road to Darkness" - in fact we recorded 2 LPs and one EP in that year!! This particular track was a folk re-recording of a pirate-metal song that originally featured Luke on Vocals.

When we did "Solway", the idea was to re-tell all the folklore of Cumbria that had somehow been lost through the ages in a few short songs. As such a folk music vibe seemed to go hand-in hand.

The lyrics, originally a William Wordsworth poem, were sung by our old friend Beccie Watson, who would later appear on the "Day in the Life of a Universal Wanderer" LP.

We love this version so we've left it untouched, recorded in only two takes, it's a great song to sit back and chill out to!

lyrics

She dwelt among the untrodden ways
Beside the springs of Dove,
A Maid whom there were none to praise
And very few to love

A violet by a mossy stone
Half hidden from the eye!
Fair as a star, when only one
Is shining in the sky.

She lived unknown, and few could know
When Lucy ceased to be;
But she is in her grave, and, oh,
The difference to me!
