She Dwelt Among The Untrodden Ways

from Songs from the Solway EP by Gandalf's Fist

/

about

This track is a re-working of a song from the "Road to Darkness" LP, with William Wordsworth’s (a good Cumbrian lad) poetry set to music. The original featured Luke adopting a Dirge-like tone and pirate metal refrain but with this re-recording we took things back to the original folk/pastoral feel I originally envisioned - with our long-time friend, Beccie Watson, providing the vocals.

lyrics

She dwelt among the untrodden ways
Beside the springs of Dove,
A Maid whom there were none to praise
And very few to love

A violet by a mossy stone
Half hidden from the eye!
Fair as a star, when only one
Is shining in the sky.

She lived unknown, and few could know
When Lucy ceased to be;
But she is in her grave, and, oh,
The difference to me!
